This impressive Grade I listed Jacobean Manor House, with its comfortably furnished 17th and 18th century interiors is truly wonderful to behold, both inside and out. Here deep in rural East Sussex, you will discover all the character of a grand country house, combined with all the modern facilities to ensure a flawless occasion, a mansion that was the family home of the Frewen family for over 300 years.

The site includes the oldest walled gardens in Sussex and incorporates an arboretum (with the Lady Jane Frewen bluebell walk), a Jacobean bowling green and a topiary chess garden, which backs onto 100 acres of ancient deer park for wandering through nature.

Brickwall House is the ideal venue for perfectly formed weddings or dining events of up to 60 day guests within the manor house yet can also offer gracious space for up to 100 guests with options with a garden marquee.

LOCATION

We are based in the beautiful Wealden countryside, on the borders of East Sussex and Kent, just on the outskirts of the historic village of Northiam.

Although benefiting from a rural location, uniquely we are within just an hour of London,  Gatwick Airport and the Channel Tunnel, and able to access Eurostar services at Ashford International Station.

The large towns of Hastings, Ashford and Tunbridge Wells are all close by, together with the historic small towns of Rye, Battle and Tenterden within less than 20 minutes reach.

WE ARE BOUTIQUE AND NICHE AND ONLY HAVE SELECT DATES AVAILABLE IN THE SUMMER

During term-time Brickwall House serves as a gorgeous educational setting, a school, Frewen College, so weddings are only held during the summer holidays and select half terms. We also only every have one wedding a day to ensure you have an exclusive experience.

Ceremonies

there are A number of choices when it comes to having your ceremony at Brickwall House.

making this a very flexible venue.

You can choose either to marry in a civil ceremony in our drawing room or on our Garden Lawns or in the Topiary Chess Garden.

Alternatively, it's also possible to marry in a symbolic bespoke celebrant-led ceremony within the arboretum woodland.

Within walking distance of the venue is also beautiful St Mary's Church in Northiam, where it is possible to have a religious Church of England ceremony. However, you need to have a qualifying connection with the church in order to marry here. Glorious Grounds

The ideal setting for a wedding, the gardens at Brickwall House are a veritable treasure.


To the front of the property the long stately driveway is bordered by perfectly manicured lawns and a roundabout allowing a unique arrival experience for guests to be welcomed. An Arboretum allows for magical woodland moments and experiences which enchant with bluebells in the late Spring/early summer.

The rear of the manor house are the formal gardens where the beds are planted with over a hundred varieties of plant species, providing an array of colour throughout the year. 300 year old magnolia trees and 400 year old mulberry trees can be found alongside passion flowers, lavender and roses.

The walled garden with its topiary of yew chess pieces on a chess board is delightfully enchanting, beyond this is the Deer Park and Chestnut Avenue. All of these spaces offer a cornucopia of photo opportunities and the perfect backdrop to your special day.
